Several times in the Old Testament, God declares that He is God and there is no other. He also reminds the children of Israel, repeatedly, that "I am the Lord your God". There are times when it seems that our strength is utterly depleted. We battle just to muster up a prayer or a simple song of praise. When we take our eyes off the Lord of our salvation, we easily become consumed with the cares of this world. Problems, issues, situations, mishaps, misfortunes, burdens... all of these things have the potential to shake our faith and shift our focus. If we are not careful, these things will even cause changes in our physical appearance. Have you ever been around someone who was "going through" terribly? What did that look like? Sloppy dress, poor alignment of priorities, sluggish posture... What did it sound like? Complaining, whining, nagging, negativity, hopelessness, despair...

I have often heard the phrase, “Anything worth having is worth working for.” I totally agree. Oftentimes, when we are allowed to enjoy things that we have not worked for, we become disconnected from reality. You know, when a teenager gets his/her first car without having to have good grades or give any money towards the down payment. They tend to become less appreciative as the newness wears off. They make no connection of appreciation with the reality that they have received something of great value that did not cost them anything.

Psalm 138:8

"The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands."

I absolutely LOVE this Psalm. The psalmist begins this scripture by encouraging himself. I guess you could say he engages in a bit of "pep talk".  The wisdom, knowledge and understanding that derives from this portion of the scriptures makes a sound declaration for the psalmist of the following facts:


  • there is only one true and living God
  • confidence in who his God is
  • knowing that he serves the God who reigns

Gratitude is a respected quality; a desired characteristic. It is the recognition of grace, mercy and favor.

So what defines an “Attitude of Gratitude” and what does it look like? Before I answer that question, let’s explore what it does not look like.

It is not:

  • Taking things, people, events, opportunities, promotions, protection, safety, wealth, employment, education, life, health, etc. for granted.
  • Failing to say “thank you”.
  • Disregarding those who have helped you along the way.

After surviving the cold winter months, it seems that all of creation looks forward to something new. Well, today marks the 1st day of spring. Let us rejoice.

There are several things that take place naturally as we move from winter to spring:

- The temperature of the air and soil starts to warm up

- Flowers begin to bloom

- Animals come out of hibernation

- Rainy days, mixed with sunshine, help the grass, flowers and trees to grow

- Birds begin to migrate north

- A different set of fruits and vegetables become “in season”

I am sure we all agree that our God is Big and Strong and Mighty. However, in our times of weakness, discouragement, warfare, failing faith, tragedy, fear, frustration, etc. we seem to forget just how Big, Powerful, Loving and Compassionate He truly is. During these trying and uncertain times, we have to be careful not to murmur, mumble or complain.

If not for His Grace and Mercy, some of us would have already been consumed with the issues of life. We must understand that we serve a True and Living God Who has given us a True and Living Word. This Word speaks life to our situations and breathes life into our Spirit.

Preparation for the coming of Christ is an underlying theme of most sermons, spiritual songs and Christian based movies and study material. Christ is indeed going to make His return and we all want to be ready. There are several passages of scripture that speak of this monumental event and also offer keys for spiritual preparation. We will discuss some of those at a later date.

Many times, we are so focused on the end, that we miss pivotal moments in or daily lives. Yes, we want to have our lamps full of oil when Christ returns. But, in the meantime, have we prepared ourselves for the opportunities that He presents to us along the way?

This very popular passage of scripture has been used to discuss themes of personal sacrifice, holiness and submission unto God. A picture is painted of God’s servant walking in wholeness; prepared to be a conduit of His Spirit as He leads.


I have been thinking a lot about this scripture lately. The word that speaks loudly to me is the verb “present”. It means “to show or offer (something) for others to scrutinize or consider.”  We go throughout our day making presentations whether knowingly or unknowingly. Let’s consider the following:
